Narcosis, The Great White Seen at Ginnie Springs

**** FLASH ***** Narcosis the Great White discovered at Ginnie Springs. The individuals who found Narcosis writes: “My son-in-law and I found Narcosis in the bowels of Ginnie Springs.  He attacked us….but we were able to fend him off.  He still calls Ginnie home.” See the clip of the attack. Though Narcosis has thought to have been docile, this is the first report of an attack. Though there is no real danger of injury from Narcosis, she is still considered a safe and friendly Great White and loves to interact with divers. So, should you find Narcosis during your dive within the Ginnie Cavern, snap a photo and send it to Divetalking along with a brief description of the occurance. Would you like to dive Silver Springs?

For a few years at the end of the Eisenhower administration Hollywood legend Lloyd Bridges used the once gin-clear output of Silver Springs as the set for a TV show based on a scuba diver. Over 155 episodes of the adventure series “Sea Hunt” — more than 100 of which were filmed at Silver Springs — Bridges portrayed Mike Nelson, a one-time Navy frogman who in the space of 30 minutes, as the online version of Skin Diver magazine once noted, “got into trouble, got out of trouble, rescued a damsel, caught the bad guys and neatly wrapped things up with a safety message.” Now that Silver Springs is slated to become a state park, and enticing ecotourists is viewed as a must, a drive is on to open up the waterway … Read entire article »

Narcosis Found

On November, 18 2012 I receive a notice that Narcosis has been found. [singlepic id=818 w=320 h=240 float=center] Narcosis is a one foot female great white which lives in the Ginnie Cavern. She was introduced to Ginnie Springs in October, 2012 after her sister, Deco went missing. Narcosis is shy and will not bite. She hides in various locations within the Ginnie Spring. On this November day,  while diving the spring, John Kenney discovered Narcosis’ hiding place. Taking a picture to prove he has found her, the picture above as well as a video clip, which the discovery may be found a little over 4 minutes into the video. John had let Narcosis free to find a new hiding place within the Ginnie Cavern for the next adventurous diver to locate. Congratulations to John … Read entire article »
