TISIRI artificial reef efforts
Just a quick update regarding TISIRI artificial reef efforts. TISIRI is knee deep in a tugboat reef project. The tug is over 100 years and as an artificial reef she could serve a 100 more. Currently the vessel resides partially submerged in a shallow area of river. We are awaiting on a coast guard inspection and quotes from offshore towing providers. Once the Coast Guard gives us an idea of what condition they would like to see her in we can begin with preparations. We still have the naming rights for this project available. A significant project financial contributor can have the reef project named as they wish. We will mount a large sign with the name on the vessel itself and call the new artificial reef this name. This contribution/s … Read entire article »

Conservation International Announces Support for U.S. National Ocean Policy
On July 20, 2010 a new U.S. National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes (National Policy) should be a turning point in the country’s management of its coastlines and seas, and represents an important first step for improving global ocean health was the reaction of Dr. Gregory Stone, Chief Ocean Scientist for Conservation International (CI). “Simply put, this is a monumental moment in ocean management by READ MORE … Read entire article »

Manta Ray filmed off Jacksonville
This film clip of a manta ray was taken Friday October 22, 2010 off the coast of Jacksonville Florida. The divers reported the scale was at least a 20 foot wing span. This is a first. I never knew they came this close to our coast line. October 22, 2010, a Friday to remember for these divers who not only saw the Manta Ray but filmed her. The TISIRI team was once again working on the environment. Out collecting trash as part of a grant by West Marine. The days events were being documented on film. Joe Kistel, as the last diver to enter the water explains the story to me like this: I was just about the enter the water when Ed pops up yelling “hey big bam rayjama smellow.” The captain … Read entire article »

Recent Post on facebook
I placed this post out under PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) Discussion Topics area this morning. Why are Instructors excluded from being a choice for students to select when registering/signing up elearning? a few years ago, PICs were available online except for Instructors. Now elearning is online and ALL Teaching Status Instructors are not listed as a contact for the prospective student. Take the total number of Teaching Status Instructors there are in the database. Divide the number of IRRAs into that number and tell me if the quotent is a realistic number? That number represents the number of instructors / IRRA. It’s over a 100 instructors / IRRA. What is the average number of Instructors / IRRA? Perhaps 10. Why is there such a deviation between the two numbers? Now, take that difference, … Read entire article »

Divetalking community needed at tritonshall.com
Tritonshall I am writing to ask for your support. I have been slowly building a new web site, Tritonshall.com. I came up with the use of the name because I want this site to be a place where you can voice your opinions and be a messenger of the sea. You will become, our Triton. Triton is a mythological Greek god, the messenger of the sea. He is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and Amphitrite, goddess of the sea, whose herald he is. He is usually represented as a merman, having the upper body of a human and the tail of a fish, “sea-hued”, according to Ovid[1] “his shoulders barnacled with sea-shells”. Like his father, Poseidon, he carried a trident. However, Triton’s special attribute was a twisted conch shell, on which … Read entire article »

A Concrete Boat
The TISIRI Team once again is out looking at material for it’s candidacy as an artificial reef. We are contacted by Carl Blow, who informs us there is a concrete vessel parked outside his door. It didn’t take long for the team to assemble, head to St. Augustine, Fl. and catch a skif over to this vessel. Here are some pictures from our visit 14 Oct. 2010. We figured we were driving by this vessel on our way to Whitney Labs, so we stopped. As Carl Blow, St. Johns County Waterways Commissioner, Joe Kistel, Larry Davis, Ed Ed Kalakauskis, with TISIRI approach the boat. From the bow, I snap this shot of Carl Blow and Joe Kistel discussing the opportunity of this vessel as an artificial reef of the St. Augustine, florida coast line. Carl Blow … Read entire article »

Divers Supply Jacksonville moved to a new location
It was many months in the making and the time had arrived. Divers Supplys new location was available to begin moving items from the old shop to the new. The Jacksonville Diver Supply Team assembled and began promoting items. Items that were dramtically mark down. Better to sell it than have to pack it and move it. What wasn’t sold was packed and shipped to the new store. Here you see wetsuits on sale, and boxes being packed for shipment to the new location. That new location is: Monday – Saturday 10a.m. to 7p.m. & Sundays 12p.m. to 5p.m. Divers Supply Jacksonville 2225 Saint Johns Bluff Road Jacksonville, FL 32246 When you first walk in, you are in a large open store that is spacious and bright. This was their first day open, Oct 2, 2010 and I … Read entire article »
