Photography – Canon 5D Mark II
With todays camera being able to make movies, I decided to test this out for myself. Already owning two UW HD Video systems, this would be a nice addition to my collection. I decided on the Canon 5D Mark II. Everything I’ve read and seen about this camera is fantastic. The final season of House was filmed with this camera. In addition to the Canon 5D Mark II, I also purchased the following: Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L USM & 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM Lenses CTA Digital CTLPE6 LP-E6 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 1950mAh) Canon CALPE6 LP-E6 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.2V, 1800mAh) Canon CABGE6 BG-E6 Battery Grip SanDisk 724557 64GB 600x Extreme Pro CompactFlash Card Swarovski SWCT101 CT-101 Carbon Fiber Tripod w/ FH101 Fluid Quick Release Pan/Tilt Head Kirk KIBL5DM2G BL-5DIIG L-Bracket for Canon 5DMKII Camera Body Still … Read entire article »

2010 International Coastal Cleanup
Saturday September 25, 2010 was International Coastal Cleanup day. The Jacksonville Reef Research Team will again be the site captain for the cleanup at Helen Cooper Floyd Park, also called the Little Jetties. Members from the NAS JAX SCUBA DIVES club and the REVLON COMPANY volunteers participated with the cleanup. We all met around 9am, collected our rubber gloves, bags and tools and began walking the shores, picking up any man made garbage. Here are some picture from that days event. PADI Member Benefit not available to all Instructors yet paid for by all Instructors
I thought PADI stood for Professional Association of Dive Instructors. Today I received an email stating my PADI Professional Renewal is coming due. Let me take a step back a few years. While attending one of the PADI seminars at DEMA in Orlando, 2008 I had the opportunity to ask the PADI Panel this question. Why are Electronic PIC submission only available to IRRAs and not to ALL Instructors? PIC stands for Personal Information Card, PIC and IRRA Stands for International Resorts and Retailers Association. Please understand that the PIC is required by ALL instructors when submitting for certification of their students. Its a fundamental need of all qualifying students. Why limit electronic submission of PICS to just IRRAs? A year and a half later, PADI announces PIC is available online to ALL Instructors. Now, a few years … Read entire article »

Tuff-E-Nuff
Made a trip out to Georgia today to visit Tuff-E-Nuff. TISIRI was onsite and I wanted to film some of the vessel and the work being performed. At around 5:00pm we get the news the method we were going to use to place the tug on dry land is broken. It will take a month to get it repaired. All worked stopped, things were packed up and we left the vessel. We must now find a way to get her to a location which she can be prepared as an artificial reef. We may loose this vessel. There are creative alternatives and we will pursue all avenues. Show your support. Donate anything to our cause. It can be time, you can donate someone elses time 🙂 , money is always helpful, equipment, … Read entire article »

Atomic Aquatics Cobalt Dive Computer
The Cobalt Diving computer is the first of a new generation of computers that are easy to use, intuitive and easy to read. The menu driven display is self-explanatory at every level and can be mastered in just a few minutes. This simplicity is in contrast to its powerful capabilities and the many advanced user functions available to those who wish to use them. Brilliant full color OLED display provides the high contrast, sharpness and brightness that can be viewed at almost any angle. Built in Lithium ion battery provides 40-60 hours of dive time and several years of service before needing replacement. Battery can be quickly recharged with the AC charger or slow charged by plugging into the USB port of any PC. High pressure quick disconnect comes standard. On-board 3D digital compass Menu … Read entire article »

Sprints’ SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S is a battery hog
The day I thought would never arrive has arrived. The SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S consumes so much battery life you need to have the phone continuously plugged in. I’m at home, it’s plugged in and charging. I’m at work, the SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S is plugged in and charging. While I am driving, the SAMSUNG EPic Galaxy S is plugged in and charging. All this because I woke up one moring to find my phone OFF. It was off because during the night, it ran out of battery power. I will try an experiment tomorrow. Tomorrow morning when I take the phone off the charger, I will not charge it all day. I will use as I normally would, just like I’ve used my iPhone for the past 2.5 years and … Read entire article »

Injury Update
I think I found my pace, as far as meds goes. I’ve set up camp on my living room floor. This is where I spend most of my evenings and weekend days. On my back, with pillows as something to lean on. Today has been fairly relaxing. The pain in my back is under control at the moment and unless something dramtic happens, I plan on reporting less often on my injury. My next visit with the orthopod is Oct 7, 2010. My last visit the Dr. prescribed me a cane, a cane, can you believe this? It’s to help me with keeping falls to the floor at a minimum. Until the next Injury Update, a little bit of advise, sit at the back of the boat 🙂 Larry … Read entire article »

Injury Update
Today, Thursday September 9, 2010 I visit the Orthopod to discuss the results of my MRI. Here is what I received: RADIOLOGY REPORT PROCEDURE: Multiplanarmultisequence imaging is obtained FINDINGS: The prevertibral soft tissue are normal in appearance. THere is marrow edema in the T12 vertibral body, and there is a slight depression of the superior endplate. This is consistent with an acute to subacute compression fracture. The posterior wall of the vertebral body is intact. The disks above and below this vertibral body appear normal. The L1-L2 and L2-L3 intervertebral disks are unremarkable. L3-L4: There is a decrease in signal intensity in the interverbral disk. Minimal posterior bulding of this disk is present. This does not cause significant mass effect on the thecal sac.The neural foramina are patent. The L4-L5 and the L5-S1 intervertebral disks are unremarkable. IMPRESSION: 1. Injury Update
it’s been a few days since I last wrote on the subject of my injury. Last Thursday I phoned the Orthopod and described a number of symptoms I was experiencing. Headache, Cool sensation in the back of my head, loss of use of lower left extremedies. With this information I received a phone call stating the Dr. would like an MRI. That was scheduled the following day when I received a call asking when I would be available for the MRI. It was scheduled for Tuesday evening. Last night I went and had the MRI. It took a little less than one hour and I was out by 7:40pm. I asked for a copy of the pictures and was told I would need to get the Dr. to request the copy. … Read entire article »

Tuff-E-Nuff
It is Sunday September 5, 2010 and we’re off to St. Mary’s Georgia to a Marina that has a 19th century tug sitting on a sandbar at the edge of the river. It is around 11:30am when we arrive at St. Mary’s Boat Service where the tug is located. Today we took the opportunity to document the vessel and our ideas on getting her prepared for her new home, hopefully somewhere off the coast of Florida. Here is a small video of that day.
