Divers find large, unexplained object at bottom of Baltic Sea
By Eric Pfeiffer A team of salvage divers has discovered an unexplained object resting at the bottom of the Baltic Sea near Sweden. “This thing turned up. My first reaction was to tell the guys that we have a UFO here on the bottom,” said Peter Lindberg, the leader of the amateur treasure hunters. Sonar readings show that the mysterious object is about 60 meters across, or, about the size of a jumbo jet. And it’s not alone. Nearby on the sea floor is another, smaller object with a similar shape. Archeologists believe shipwreck found off Japan belongs to Kublai Khan’s 13th-century “lost fleet”
By Laura Rozen | The Envoy – 23 hrs ago Marine archeologists say that the ancient wreckage of a ship discovered in the seabed off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan, belongs to the ancient “lost fleet” of ships deployed by China’s 13th century Mongol ruler Kublai Khan, CNN reports. Explorers found the 20-meter-long shipwreck some 25 meters off the coast of Nagasaki using ultra-sound equipment, buried about a meter deep in the sandy seabed. Archeologists believe the ship dates back to 1281, and was part of a 4,400-vessel fleet that China’s Mongol rulers deployed in a thwarted attempt to invade Japan. $18 Million Of Silver Found On SS Mantola Shipwreck In North Atlantic, Off Coast Of Ireland
Sunken treasure doesn’t only surface in movies. Explorers recently found about $18 million worth of silver onboard a shipwreck in the North Atlantic, and on Monday they announced their plans to retrieve the booty sometime this spring, The New York Times reports. The SS Mantola was found about 8,000 feet underwater near the coast of Ireland, where it sank in 1917 after an attack by Germany on its way from London to Calcutta, NPR details. The ship was carrying about 19 tons of silver bars. Odyssey Marine Exploration made the discovery last month, according to FOX News. And it’s not the Florida treasure hunting company’s first time striking gold on the ocean floor. TUFF-E-NUFF has left port this morning around 6am EST on her way to her new duty station. Sea conditions were as predicted, and are getting rougher. I have received a number of calls from the guys hitching a ride on TUFF-E-NUFF and the ride is making them nervous. Sea and wind conditions are picking up and a storm is on the horizon. Saturday, the TISIRI team arrive at 10:30AM to find TUFF-E-NUFF moored along the end of the dock at Harborview Marina. Moored behind he was the Dawn Star, the Tug that towed TUFF-E-NUFF from St. Mary’s GA. to it’s present location. The day started off cool, but in a matter of minutes, we were all pulling off our warmer clothing and down to the T-shirts we went. The day was beautiful, sunny and warm. Sunday should be even better as far a weather goes. Now, this was the part that tugged at the heart. Tugboat to be used as Kyle Conrad Reef en route to Treasure Coast
MARTIN COUNTY — A steel tugboat built over a century ago and originally powered by a steam engine soon will begin a new chapter in its history of service. The tugboat Tuff-E-Nuff has begun its 200-plus-mile tow from just north of Jacksonville to where it will eventually find its final resting place, on the sea floor about 10 miles northeast of St. Lucie Inlet.
