Sprints’ SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S is a battery hog

The day I thought would never arrive has arrived. The SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S Samsung Epic 4G for Sprintconsumes so much battery life you need to have the phone continuously plugged in. I’m at home, it’s plugged in and charging. I’m at work, the SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S is plugged in and charging. While I am driving, the SAMSUNG EPic Galaxy S is plugged in and charging. All this because I woke up one moring to find my phone OFF. It was off because during the night, it ran out of battery power.

I will try an experiment tomorrow. Tomorrow morning when I take the phone off the charger, I will not charge it all day. I will use as I normally would, just like I’ve used my iPhone for the past 2.5 years and see and the end of the day what the battery life is. I’ll post the result here this Thursday, so stop by and see what the result is.

Samsung Epic 4G for Sprint

Here is my findings after a full charge. First, I did not need to wait until Thursday as the original report, above shows. It is Wednesday and I’m ready to provide you with an update. As you may have already imagined, it can’t be good and you’re right. Tuesday night, before going to bed, I had the SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S charging. This morning I had a message on the screen reading the phone is fully charged, I’ll get a screen shot of it and post it here. So here we go, at 6:03am this morning, Wednesday I unplug the phone from it’s charger and start my day. At around 4:30pm, Wednesday I received a message that the phone has run low on battery. Now here is what I’ve done to try and reduce battery consumption.
1) I turned off all vibration
2) I set the display intensity to ‘auto’
3) All audible touch sounds are disabled

You can see from the picture below, which is dated 09/15/2010 and is todays date as well, i’ve used almost nothing almost any bytes or 6 minutes of airtime. Not enough to justify the energy used to support this phone.

I did not turn off GPS because the iPhone has GPS turned on.. Apples to Apples, no pun intended. Heck, didn’t even liten to Pandora on this phone.
I used the iPhone today to listen to Pandora, the iPhone is at 1/2 battery and I didn’t even charge the iPhone last night, so it started the day not fully charged.

My opinion is if you intend to purchase this phone, purchase an addition data cable and a car charger. THis way you can charge your phone at work and at home (each on it’s own data cable) and in the car inbetween any two charging points. That’s how serious the battery consumption is on this phone. Also remember, you have a 30 trial. If you are coming from a carrier other than Spring, KEEP you old number and get a new number for this phone. If you like the phone, you can get Sprint to transfer the number, else if you decide you do not like the phone, you still have service with your old carrier. A lot less hassle for you.

On Thursday, 9/16 I turned GPS off to see how the phones battery last throughout the day.
I did this because after returning home Wednesday, I placed the SAMSUNG Epic Galaxy S on the charger at 4:30pm and unplugged the phone at around 9:30pm. When I woke this Tursday morning, the phone was out of memory. WOW, not much use, no… Not any use during 10pm Wed. to 07:00am Thursday.

I’ll update the post Friday on the usage after turning GPS off.

Here is Fridays Update on the SAMSUNG Epic Galary S battery consumption after turning GPS Off.
No difference, still a battery HOG. I woke up to zero battery life again.
