Divers and crew missing after Red Sea liveaboard Sea Story sinks
Search and rescue operation are underway after the Red Sea liveaboard Sea Story sank off the coast of Marsa Alam the morning of November 25, 2024. A number of the divers and crew are reported still missing. Latest updates, as of 1 pm on 25 November, 28 people of the 45 that were on board have now been rescued. Special Permit 9791 Renewed through 2026
Special Permit (SP) expired as of 9/30/22. This means that any cylinder stamped with that SP9791 or E9791 is no longer valid for use, fill or transport in the US by law. Lionfish Traps that appear to be working
Check out these new #lionfish traps researchers are testing in the northern Gulf of Mexico! Former Guy Harvey Scholar Holden Harris (UF IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station) has been working with Alex Fogg from the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners and Steve Gittings from the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries to test a new a “non-containment” lionfish trap. The design works to “bait” lionfish by offering a structure that attracts them. The trap remains open while deployed on the sea floor, allowing fish to move in and out of the trap footprint. When the trap is retrieved, a netting is pulled up around the fish inside and they are brought to the surface.
