Tuff-E-Nuff
It is Sunday September 5, 2010 and we’re off to St. Mary’s Georgia to a Marina that has a 19th century tug sitting on a sandbar at the edge of the river. It is around 11:30am when we arrive at St. Mary’s Boat Service where the tug is located. Today we took the opportunity to document the vessel and our ideas on getting her prepared for her new home, hopefully somewhere off the coast of Florida. Here is a small video of that day. It’s official – A new Artificial Reef off St. Augustine, Florida!
July and August, 2010 have been productive months for Carl Blow of the St. Johns County Port, Waterway, and Beach District Commissioner, St. Augustine, Florida. One of Carls roles is in Artificial construction. Carl and the Ancient City Game Fish Association was instrumental in procuring the neccessary approvals and coordination of resources to successfully place 700 tons pilings, once used to guide vessles under the temporary bridge built, while the Bridge of Lions was being refurbished to its original state. Those pilings were pulled from service, placed on a barge, cut in half, towed approx. 7 miles off short St. Augustine as St. Johns county’s sees it’s newest artificial reef. Here is a small video made July 2010 of the material being pulled and placed on a barge: [xr_video id=”cc2c5f0a1ba74f25a8180215200c0744″ size=”sm”] The new site named Andy King … Read entire article »

Two of the other divers show up around 7am. we setup our gear while we’re waiting for your boat and captain to arrive. At around 7:45am all four of us head out, three divers and the captain, who is also a diver towards Spike. Spike sits about 25 miles almost due east of the Mayport Jetties. It is a very nice day. Almost no clouds and the weather report calls for temps in the 90’s, sea condition show to be 2-3 feet (on the NOAA website) yet other boaters are reporting 2 feet or less with about an 11 … Read entire article »

BP gets OK to burn off captured oil, gas at sea
By RAY HENRY and BRIAN SKOLOFF, Associated Press Writers Ray Henry And Brian Skoloff, Associated Press Writers – 1 hr 18 mins ago PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. – BP won permission to start burning oil and gas piped up from its broken seafloor well as part of a pledge to more than triple how much crude it stops from spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. Federal authorities gave permission late Monday for BP PLC to use a new method that involves pumping oil from the busted wellhead to a special ship on the surface, were it would be burned off rather than collected. The British oil giant announced Monday it hopes to trap as much as roughly 2.2 million gallons of oil daily by the end of June as it deploys additional containment equipment, including the flaring system. NOAA Announces to their Divers
To All NOAA Divers, In response to several requests from NOAA divers for clarification on acceptable areas for diving in the Gulf of Mexico, the NOAA Diving Control and Safety Board sought advice from several agencies including the US Navy, EPA and NOAA's Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R). Based on this advice, the Board decided to establish a "diving exclusion zone" extending 30 NM beyond the furthest boundary line shown in the 72-Hour Nearshore Surface Oil Forecast for the Deepwater Horizon (MC252) incident which is produced and updated daily by OR&R. As the boundary line may change daily, it is imperative that all NOAA divers wishing to dive in the Gulf of Mexico consult the OR&R webpage to view the projected location of the surface and near-surface oil over the next 72 hours and then extend it outward 30 additional … Read entire article »

The Pipe BP is using. What is its maximum rated capacity?
What is the pipes maximum rated capacity? You know, the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico pipe that has oil pouring out from the end of it? How many units of oil/gas are capable of flowing through the pipe? By unit I mean feet/meter/gallons what ever the unit may be given on a per time. Example, 85000 gallons/hour or 2000000 gallons/day. What is the number? What ever that number is is most probably the amount of oil/gas flowing from the well. If you think about the amount of weight pressing down on this huge pool of oil and gas, the atmosphere of air at sea level (14.7psi), the weight of the water (14.7psi * (151 Atmospheres)), the soil and rock beneath the sea . You add all that up and you get millions … Read entire article »

Sinking BP shares ignite trans-Atlantic rift
This is what cutting corners to make a profit does. LONDON – The Gulf of Mexico oil spill risked turning into a trans-Atlantic diplomatic rift Thursday after U.S. threats to have BP fork out billions more for the disaster caused a precipitous slide in the blue-chip’s stock, hurting retirement savings for millions of Britons. My thought: Why tell us, tell BP. They are the ones who are responsible for this mess. America, are you willing to give up your lively hood, your sovernty so BP and Britons may feel good about their retirement and executives bonus’? British lawmakers are even pushing Prime Minister David Cameron to get President Barack Obama to tone down his stinging criticism of the oil company, complaining that the hostile rhetoric will have severe implications for pensioners with nest eggs in … Read entire article »

BP Consequences for Gulf Oil Spill
What do you think? What should be the consequences for the catasptrophe occuring off our shores for BP and US Government? Is a companies profits (Mngt bonus’) to come at the cost of our planet and its citizens? Should non stockholder of BP be made to pay for their mistakes of saving a buck to make a ton of bucks for BP, its stockholders? Who is BP being responsible to? Of course they’ll say, the stock holders. The shorting of processes came to save a buck and make even more $$’s just increase profits benefiting shareholders and management. Where did all that shortcuts get the rest of the world, especially all citizen directly affected by the spill? Did BP really make a profit from this catastrophic mess? Now, where did the spill get them and us? Is paying … Read entire article »
