Solicite for Blackbeard as Jacksonvilles Newest 2010 Artificial Reef

I see the Jacksonville Offshore Fishing Club soliciting to have Blackbeard placed offshore Jacksonville, Florida as an artificial reef. Now that the cat is out. This is one of our next hopefulls. About one month ago, a team went to visit Blackbeard. I took video and pictures, while others surveyed the vessel. She’s in really great shape considering her age. Built back in the latter 1950’s, she served Mayport as a ferry to suttle motoriized vessles from one side of the St. Johns to the other. Today she sits and has been sitting for a number of years at the Green Cove docks along the intercoastal.  Here is a post from a member of the Jacksonville Offshore Fishing Club, JOSFC. http://www.firstcoastangler.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/topic/213/gonew/1.html We need your support and donations. Sea Sick

Who reading this gets sea sick? I do and it stinks. I love to dive and I love diving and have been diving one score +13 years at this point and as much as I get sea sick, I love diving. So here’s what I’ve tried. I’ve tried Meclizine How should I take meclizine? Use this medication exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Take meclizine with a full glass of water. The chewable tablet may be swallowed whole, crushed, or chewed. To prevent motion sickness, take meclizine about 1 hour before you travel or engage in activity that causes motion sickness. You may take meclizine once every 24 hours while you are traveling, to further prevent motion sickness. Follow … Read entire article »

Interested in diving related field work?

If you live in or near the NE corner of Florida and you are or have been interested in the field or research, oceanography, data collection, artificial reefs, reef monitoring and more, there are a couple of groups you may be interested in checking out. First there is the Jacksonville Reef Research Team, JRRT. Other duties performed by JRRT is Pre-Deployment and post-deployment surveys. Calculating No Decompression Limit, NDL

We will start with the DSAT Air Tables. simply known as the Recreational Dive Planner, RDP. Using your DSAT Air Table, position the card so it looks like what you see above. Dive tables, what are they? Why do they exist? Why do I need to understand how to use a dive table? If I have and use a computer, do I still need to know how to use a dive table? Dive tables may be found in many forms. They may be online, on a hard plastic, water proof card, they may be flexible and/or foldable but what they all contain is a method to calculate our bottom times, surface interval times based on our planned depth, time at depth and our time between dives. Is it important to know how to work your dive tables? One question asked “If I’m wearing … Read entire article »
