Injury update

Today I visited an Orthopedic Surgeon regarding the Fracture Vertebrae I sustained August 20, 2010 while heading out to document Spikes progress from her placmement offshore Jacksonville, Florida July 2009. The team was heading out to produce some video and stills of her state when about 9 miles off shore we hit a hole in the ocean and the vibrations from the vessle being slammed down and into this hole was enough to break my spine.
Here are a couple of shots from todays x-ray.

The pictures do not reflect the fracture as well as the film from the hospital. I’ll try to get that film and place it here.

I was provided with, check this out, what I am told is a $1200 brace. $1200 brace? I’m in the wrong business.

The Dr. tells me 8-10 weeks and will not release me for at least 12 weeks from ‘normal’ activity.

What a summer. Between June 25 and 12 weeks from now, I’ve performed just ONE dive. I”m gonnaa be rusty by the time I get back into the water.

Here is what I left the Dr. with; one mightly expensive back brace, but I”m worth it. 🙂 and two week supply of Percocet.

Instructions are to obviously, wear the brace, no stress on the spine, no lifting, prolong sitting, rest and pain meds as needed.

Let me offer you this,  anyone you come across, that  fractured their vertebrae, be simpethetic. It hurts. It constantly hurts. I guess it is because it’s always working doiung what it is made to do. That’s why laying down and rest is good for the back. I perform some of my own stretches just to keep it, well, stretched.

Cheers,
