FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Divers Direct, Florida\u2019s largest retailer of SCUBA diving equipment, announces its 2nd annual \u201cScrub & Grub\u201d beach and reef cleanup to benefit multiple locations throughout the state of Florida. This year\u2019s event is being held on Earth Day (Sunday, April 22nd) to bring awareness to the importance of maintaining the health of the aquatic environment by engaging in \u201cgreen\u201d practices when enjoying this natural resource.<\/p>\n

Each of the Divers Direct store locations in West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Key Largo and Key West will spearhead its own cleanup of a local beach, coral reef, or both. The cleanup will be followed by a celebration at each store with food and beverages for all participants to show our thanks and gratitude for taking part in this meaningful effort to preserve our beaches and oceans for many generations to come. Prizes will be awarded to participants who collect the most trash.<\/p>\n

Also at this year\u2019s event, we will have a limited number of event t-shirts available for sale, with all profits being given to the Coral Restoration Foundation (www.coralrestoration.org), a local organization promoting the restoration and preservation of degraded coral reefs.<\/p>\n

Divers, snorkelers and beach-lovers alike will have the opportunity to participate in this effort. Each Divers Direct store will maintain a list of participants and provide collection bags to all who sign up. Tanks will be available for rental at our Orlando, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale stores on a limited basis for divers who do not have their own.
