{"id":1293,"date":"2010-06-14T17:07:41","date_gmt":"2010-06-14T21:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.divetalking.com\/?p=1293"},"modified":"2010-06-15T10:41:43","modified_gmt":"2010-06-15T14:41:43","slug":"noaa-announces-to-their-divers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.divetalking.com\/?p=1293","title":{"rendered":"NOAA Announces to their Divers"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>To All <span>NOAA<\/span> Divers,<\/pre>\n<pre> \u00a0<\/pre>\n<pre>In response to several requests from NOAA divers for clarification on<\/pre>\n<pre>acceptable areas for diving in the <span>Gulf of Mexico<\/span>, the NOAA Diving<\/pre>\n<pre>Control and Safety Board sought advice from several agencies including<\/pre>\n<pre>the US Navy, EPA and NOAA's <span style=\"border-bottom: #366388 2px dotted;cursor: hand\">Office of Response and Restoration<\/span> (OR&amp;R).\u00a0<\/pre>\n<pre>Based on this advice, the Board decided to establish a \"diving exclusion<\/pre>\n<pre>zone\" extending 30 NM beyond the furthest boundary line shown in the<\/pre>\n<pre>72-Hour Nearshore Surface Oil Forecast for the <span style=\"border-bottom: #366388 2px dotted;cursor: hand\">Deepwater Horizon<\/span> (MC252)<\/pre>\n<pre>incident which is produced and updated daily by OR&amp;R.<\/pre>\n<pre>As the boundary line may change daily, it is imperative that all NOAA<\/pre>\n<pre>divers wishing to dive in the Gulf of Mexico consult the OR&amp;R webpage to<\/pre>\n<pre>view the projected location of the surface and near-surface oil over the<\/pre>\n<pre>next 72 hours and then extend it outward 30 additional miles.\u00a0 The<\/pre>\n<pre>72-Hour Nearshore Surface Oil Forecast can be viewed at:<\/pre>\n<pre><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/response.restoration.noaa.gov\/deepwaterhorizon\" target=\"_blank\"><span>http:\/\/response.restoration.noaa.gov\/deepwaterhorizon<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Exceptions to<\/pre>\n<pre>this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Unit<\/pre>\n<pre>Diving <span style=\"border-bottom: medium none;background: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%;cursor: hand\">Supervisor<\/span> and <span>Line Office<\/span> Diving Officer.\u00a0 Such exceptions will<\/pre>\n<pre>only be considered when the absence of both surface and subsurface oil<\/pre>\n<pre>can be verified.\u00a0 It is important to note that this is a surface and<\/pre>\n<pre>near-surface forecast and does not guarantee areas outside the forecast<\/pre>\n<pre>area will be free of oil.\u00a0 Divers need to be vigilant when diving in the<\/pre>\n<pre>Gulf of Mexico and be prepared to cancel or abort dives if oil is<\/pre>\n<pre>detected prior to or during diving operations.<\/pre>\n<pre>Thank you for your compliance with this directive.<\/pre>\n<pre> \u00a0<\/pre>\n<pre>Dave<\/pre>\n<pre> \u00a0<\/pre>\n<pre>--<\/pre>\n<pre>David A.
