WOW 2019 Philippines NTK

Need To Know

If you prefer, you may Read the below information in PDF format

You are provided with as much information before making your decision. I do not subscribe to listing the lowest price just to lure you in, then add on this and that during the course of the tour. I put together the package and for that package, the cost. I believe being as transparent as possible, minimizes surprises. An informed traveler is a more satisfied traveler. Will there be additional costs while in the Philippines? Short answer, Yes. The tour cannot cover every cost yet I can say that those additional costs should be minimal. Inclusion and exclusion are listed near the end of this outline. With that being said, please continue reading…

Your WOW tour begins from Harolds Hotel in Cebu City, about 45-60 minutes by taxi from the airport (CEB). We will meet in the Harolds Hotel lobby at 8AM Saturday morning May 25 where we will meet each other,  enjoy some breakfast, do introductions, fill out any needed forms and turn over any documents before checking out. The group will depart from Harolds Hotel at 10AM May 25 to head towards Moalboal We should arrive mid-afternoon.

VISA
For most nationalities the tourist visa is valid for 30 days (29 nights) and will be issued upon entry into the country, usually at the airport. If you stay longer you can apply for a visa in your home country before traveling to the Philippines. Please check with the Philippine embassy in your country for details if a visa is required or not.

MONEY (Currency Rates/Exchange)
Please be aware that it is not possible to change money in some of our destinations. To get some cash in Philippine Pisos it is recommended you exchange some currency directly at the airport (before leaving the building). However, dive center bills can be paid in PHP, USD, EUR, CHF, AUD, or YEN. When accepted, all credit card payments will be converted into USD. When carrying US currency (highly recommended) make sure the bills are CRISP and CLEAN. No tears, folds, writing, marks of any kind or any other condition depicting non-new/crisp state. Make sure you carry more than enough for terminal/airport fees, visa, incidentals, meals, side trips, tips, souvenirs, rental equipment, dives, unforeseen circumstances, etc..

Flights
Here is a site to look for flights, Google Flights. When booking your flight, use the exact name written on your passport. Don’t forget to get your mileage benefit with the airlines if applicable. Should you have any questions about flights, please reach out before purchasing.

GETTING THERE
You may schedule your flight into and out of Manila (MNL) or into and out of Cebu City, (CEB). Into and out of CEBU is definitely more convenient if heading from and directly back to the States. If flying into Manila, you may arrange for a regional flight to Cebu City (CEB) from Manila. I use Philippine Airlines, (PAL) from Manila. PAL has almost hourly round trip between Manila (MNL) and Cebu City, (CEB). You may of course make any arrangements to get to Cebu City (CEB), CEBU Philippines.. Please arrange your flight to arrive no later than May 24, 2019. You may of course arrive earlier than Friday May 24, 2019. You will need to spend at least one night in the Philippines, preferably in Cebu before we embark on our journey May 25, 2019.

Arriving Early

Your plans should have you arriving prior to the start of the WOW Tour. Recommended Hotels in Manila are The Heritage Hotel ($$) and The Midas Hotel ($$$) and the The Henry Hotel ($$). The three hotels are nice, clean and comfortable. In Cebu City there is the Harolds Hotel, downtown. Transportation from the airport to the Hotel is also available usually through the hotel which you are staying yet there are taxi’s at the airport. Official taxis are either white or yellow. If staying in Manila, there is largest mall in the world Mall of ASIA is not far from the airport. Usually the hotels provide a courtesy shuttle.

If staying in Cebu, I would recommend staying at Harolds Hotel and eating at RICOS

CEBU Airport

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (IATA: CEB; ICAO: RPVM), is the international airport serving the Cebu City, in the Philippines. It is located in Lapu-Lapu city, in Mactan Island, which belongs to Metro Cebu. It operates in the Central Visayas region. CEB Airport is located about 15 km away from Cebu City Centre, so the taxi ride should take about 1 hour, but it always depends on the traffic.

Once you go out from the Mactan-Cebu Airport’s Terminal, 1 minute walking you’ll see the rank of taxis (white and yellow), you don’t need to cross the main road. If headed to Harolds Hotel, check with Harolds for their shuttle service.

DIVING SUPERVISION
You’ve chosen a vacation for the diving freedom that it offers. While in the water, you and your buddy are in charge. Every dive starts with a dive briefing from the staff. However, as a certified diver, you and your buddy are responsible for planning and conducting your own dives within the limitations set forth by the briefing. The staff will be on the dive deck providing  surface support for divers and will also have staff in the water offering support, u/w photography and videography, and critter spotting services as well. On some dive sites a  staff member will offer to lead a group and assist them in locating specific points of interest. If you start out with a group, as long as you and your buddy remain in contact with each other and are ok – you may follow your own dive plan. Divers who desire more personal attention and structured/supervised   dives should consider requesting a personal Divemaster. There is of course an additional fee for this service.

All-day-diving
A maximum of 4 boat dives a day
Each day diving counts as a all-day-diving day no matter how many dives will be performed
Only available in Cabilao

Pre-booked dive packages are valid in all dive centers*
Extra dives can be paid directly in the dive center
Unused pre-booked and on-the-spot purchased dive packages will not be refunded

SANCTUARY FEES & EXTRA CHARGES
The sanctuary fees (SF) are helping in conservation of the nature and natural resources.
The extra charges (EC) are mainly for covering additional costs on day trips because of long boat rides.
