Lionfish and Whaleshark Expeditions September 3-10, 2011

September 3 – 10, 2011 I will be visiting Cozumel to create a documentary on the subject of Lionfish.

Lionfish

I am opening the Lionfish expedition up to individuals who have a need to experience Lionfish handling and would like to experience the consumption of any lionfish caught the day of your expedition. Your time will begin with about a 1 hour introduction to the nature of Lionfish, where they are from, what they mean to the local environment, techniques for safely handling. We will then proceed to the boat, heading to locations to begin the hunt for the lionfish. The days diving ends with the proper handing to clean and prepare the lionfish caught that day for consumption. Yes, you will be eating any lionfish caught that day. A lionfish cookbook is provided as part of your package.

There are three days of lionfish diving/filming planned to allow enough time to film and to provide enough opportunity for all those showing interest.

Space is limited on the Lionfish expeditions to a max of 8 guest divers for each day of filming. For those who wish to earn a certification, Lionfish specialty certification is being offered for those who would like to receive one.

The Whaleshark trip is an all day all inclusive event. Only one trip is planned this week and this Sunday trip is the one you want to take. Food and drinks will be provided in both directions, with lunch at a restaurant on our return trip. If you plan on attending, I strongly encourage a digital camera. Whalesharks are filter feeding sharks. Known to man as the largest fish in the ocean. The largest palegic shark recorded had a length of 41.5 ft.
