Scuba Extreme Team Meeting #2

Extreme Team Meeting Notes

                                                September 22, 2010

Thanks to everyone who came out to our meeting last week we had a fun and informative meeting and are looking forward to our next meeting October 27th at the shop from 6 pm -7 pm.  Please feel free to invite your interested dive buddies, friends or family.

Those in attendance were Sarah Kopp, Regina Ferraro, Larry Davis, Fred Sills, Patricia and Jerry Mushaben, Blake Cooper, Patrick Johnson, Sharon Wilson, Norine Blanton, Joe Kistel, Gary Clem, Larry Giggey, Dian Schichtel, Zac McClain, John Roberge, Tara and Jason Johns

The meeting was started with Gary Clem sharing his megalodon tooth and manatee rib bone which he found in Venice Beach, wearing his fanny pack and doo rag of course.

This started some discussion about planning a shark tooth hunting trip.  We are currently researching when best tooth finding conditions are and looking for deals on the trip.  The group had discussed planning a 2day/ 1 night trip with dives on both days.  As soon as we have more details we will share with the team to set dive dates.

Venice Beach also brought up some other great tooth finding locations such as Cooper River, South Carolina and even Black Creek. Both are black water dives, but produce a large number of artifacts.  These artifact dives are truly on the “EXTREME” side of things but could offer some great finds.

The group recognized its newest Open Water Diver Sarah Kopp.  Congratulations to her and we look forward to seeing her on many upcoming trips!

Next on the agenda was the Pompano Trip.  We discussed the Advanced and Wreck Training that would be available on that trip as well as some of the basic information about the trip.  If anyone in the team is interested in going on the trip but has not put their money down please call us at the shop (904) 269-8021 to book your spot.  We will also have a pre-trip party on October 13th at the shop from 6pm to 7pm; we hope that everyone that is joining us on the trip will be there.

Jason announced the upcoming Rescue Diver Course on the first weekend of October.  This course is a very informative and FUN course that will keep both you and your buddy safer in the water.  It is recommended that all divers take this course after their Advanced to be a better prepared and more aware diver. We are looking at organizing another Rescue course October 20th and 24th.  If you are interested in joining in this course please call us today to get your books and spot for the course.

Larry Davis gave an awesome and informative presentation on Underwater Photography and Videography.  Some of his most important pointers were that your buoyancy control should be spot on to get great video results, without lighting you have neither video nor photos, and that you should always check the compatibility of your housing to the features you need to use on your camera.  He also added that you get what you pay for in underwater video and photo equipment including the camera itself, housings, and lighting equipment!  Videoing your dives is great but must be presented correctly.  To make a great video presentation you need the right editing software.  If you haven’t checked out his website www.divetalking.com  do so today.  It is full of great information, anecdotes, and updated with the latest diving technology on the market.  Thank you Larry for your great presentation.  For more information about underwater photo and video equipment please feel free to come by the shop for both your training and equipment.

Make sure to mark your calendars for next month’s meeting October 27th from 6pm-7pm and also if you have a story to share or any requested information to be put out please contact us at the shop via phone (904) 269-8021 or by email Jason@scubaextremellc.com
