Lionfish and Whaleshark Expeditions September 3-10, 2011

September 3 – 10, 2011 I will be visiting Cozumel to create a documentary on the subject of Lionfish. Lionfish I am opening the Lionfish expedition up to individuals who have a need to experience Lionfish handling and would like to experience the consumption of any lionfish caught the day of your expedition. Your time will begin with about a 1 hour introduction to the nature of Lionfish, where they are from, what they mean to the local environment, techniques for safely handling. We will then proceed to the boat, heading to locations to begin the hunt for the lionfish. The days diving ends with the proper handing to clean and prepare the lionfish caught that day for consumption. Yes, you will be eating any lionfish caught that day. A lionfish cookbook … Read entire article »

Recent Post on facebook

I placed this post out under PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) Discussion Topics area this morning. Why are Instructors excluded from being a choice for students to select when registering/signing up elearning? a few years ago, PICs were available online except for Instructors. Now elearning is online and ALL Teaching Status Instructors are not listed as a contact for the prospective student. Take the total number of Teaching Status Instructors there are in the database. Divide the number of IRRAs into that number and tell me if the quotent is a realistic number? That number represents the number of instructors / IRRA. It’s over a 100 instructors / IRRA. What is the average number of Instructors / IRRA? Perhaps 10. Why is there such a deviation between the two numbers? Now, take that difference, … Read entire article »

PADI Member Benefit not available to all Instructors yet paid for by all Instructors

I thought PADI stood for Professional Association of Dive Instructors. Today I received an email stating my PADI Professional Renewal is coming due. Let me take a step back a few years. While attending one of the PADI seminars at DEMA in Orlando, 2008 I had the opportunity to ask the PADI Panel this question. Why are Electronic PIC submission only available to IRRAs and not to ALL Instructors? PIC stands for Personal Information Card, PIC and IRRA Stands for International Resorts and Retailers Association. Please understand that the PIC is required by ALL instructors when submitting for certification of their students. Its a fundamental need of all qualifying students. Why limit electronic submission of PICS to just IRRAs? A year and a half later, PADI announces PIC is available online to ALL Instructors. Now, a few years … Read entire article »

Full Face Mask check out

Today, Joe Kistel and I took off to Blue Grotto at 8am. Joe is the founder of  TISIRI. My goal this trip is three fold. First, a checkout dive to see how I feel on my first dive after surgery. I felt great! Buoyancy was spot. I wore my usual, drysuit, Zeagle 911 BCD, slipstream fins, gators and 10 pounds of weight. I ended up being over-weighted. I couldn’t believe it. I was adding air to my BCD and my drysuit at 30 feet. Kewl. I can drop some weight from my belt! The second goal was to speak with Ed, the owner of Blue Grotto about putting together a video of Blue Grotto. Well, Ed and Judy are out of the country at the moment. The third was to test out the … Read entire article »

Scuba Instructor Insurance renewal coming due

Vincenia sent out an email which I received today. Here is what it reads: Coverage Level:            Instructor Equipment Liability:   Not Selected Excess Liability:           Not Selected It’s that time of the year to think about insurance. Fortunately you are currently signed up for automatic renewal under the PADI Professional Liability Program. In addition to peace of mind, professional liability rates continue to remain steady and have not gone up since 2002. PADI Members, such as yourself, on automatic renewal are given priority over other members. Therefore, in order to beat the June 30 rush, we will be charging your account on or around May 17, 2010. Please note that if your payment is declined this will cause a delay in your renewal. Why not take a moment to update your account? Above is the current information we … Read entire article »
