RDP Plus – Properly Calculate Total Bottom Time on repetitive dives

RDP Plus – Properly Calculate Total Bottom Time on repetitive dives

One of the most common errors I witness as an Instructor is calculating the correct Total Bottom Time on the Recreational Dive Planner. The failure to add Residual Nitrogen Times to the Actual Bottom Time leaves the diver with an increasing accumulation of nitrogen in the body. Why is this a problem? It exposes the diver to the possibilities of Decompression Illness which could lead to serious harm to the diver. Why is calculating Total Bottom … Read entire article »

Understanding Enriched Air Nitrox

Understanding Enriched Air Nitrox

Let me start the article with stating what you are about to read is NOT a substitute for training from a certified Enriched Air Instructor. What you read here compliments that instruction. It may be used to prep before you participate in instruction or as a refresher. Enriched Air Certification is earned only through a certified Enriched Air Instructor. Do Not attempt to dive Nitrox without being certified. If you are interested in becoming Enriched … Read entire article »

RDP Plus – Calculating Surface Interval

You may have read the post on Calculating your No Decompression Limit, NDL and are here to learn more of what the RDP can do. Better stated, what you can do with your RDP! Note, even though electronic versions of the RDP are available, they are too simplified when compared to walking through the tables. The results of the two when compared should be very similar. Besides, they are electronic and didn’t I mention something about electronics going out and reverting back to the tables in my previous post? Ah huh.. So let’s move on. Calculating No Decompression Limit, NDL

We will start with the DSAT Air Tables. simply known as the Recreational Dive Planner, RDP. Using your DSAT Air Table, position the card so it looks like what you see above. Dive tables, what are they? Why do they exist? Why do I need to understand how to use a dive table? If I have and use a computer, do I still need to know how to use a dive table? They may be online, on a hard plastic, water proof card, they may be flexible and/or foldable but what they all contain is a method to calculate our bottom times, surface interval times based on our planned depth, time at depth and our time between dives. Is it important to know how to work your dive tables? One question asked “If I’m wearing … Read entire article »
